Birlenead Priory wayfinding in situ

Birkenhead Priory is a scheduled monument with buildings dating from the mid-twelfth to the late-twentieth century. Research found that the site was confusing for most visitors. It has two entrances and a central information point. We designed a low cost, low impact scheme to address the research findings. Our scheme consisted of two wayfinding and interpretation elements: printed leaflets available from the central information point to enable visitors to explore the site; and signage at each entrance featuring ‘heads up’ orientation maps to guide visitors to the central information point, plus information signs, directional signage to facilities and interpretation of significant buildings.
